PRIVATE CLIENT OR PUBLIC FUNDING?

For matrimonial cases we have a franchise with the Legal Services Commission which allows us to grant Legal Help funding during a first appointment with you if you are financially eligible and your case warrants this form of Public Funding. We also have a franchise with the Legal Services Commission which allows us to make an application for full Public Funding if you are financially eligible and your case warrants this form of Public Funding. In urgent cases we are able to devolve to ourselves this type of funding immediately. If you are not eligible for either type of Public Funding we offer a fixed fee first appointment and throughout this appointment we will discuss with you cost estimates and our hourly rates. Unfortunately Public Funding is not available for work undertaken in relation to change of name, wills and conveyancing. We therefore offer a fixed fee in relation to work undertaken in these areas. For Probate work we charge work at an hourly rate and this will be discussed with throughout our first appointment with you. Whatever your financial position we can offer you a professional and friendly service with easy access to our offices as we are in the centre of Crawley with good car parking road and rail links to all surrounding areas.

We are close to Crawley train and bus station. Although we do not have car parking available on site the nearest car park available is Orchard Street Multi-Storey which is within a 2 minute walk to the office.

All we ask is you turn up ten minutes early to assist the solicitors and the reception staff in ensuring that your appointment goes without any hitches. If you have to cancel your appointment for any reason please telephone us at your earliest opportunity as non-attendance of an appointment prevents a different client from being able to take that appointment.

HOURS OF BUSINESS

We are open Monday to Friday from 9am until 5.30pm. In some cases it is possible for our solicitors to visit you out of the office and depending on the solicitor's commitments we are able to offer appointments out of the office hours.

CONTACTING US

If you require further information or wish to book an appointment please email our reception staff ensuring that you include your name and contact details.
Alternatively please telephone the reception staff on 01293 519619.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO MY APPOINTMENT?

You have to be able to prove your identity by reference to your name and address (similar to when you open a bank account or claim your benefits). In order to prove who you are we require two items of evidence. Preferably we would request that you bring with you either a valid full driving licence or valid passport and a utility bill in your name with the correct address dated within the last three months. Furthermore we require you to bring with you proof of your income. This will either be your last three month's pay slips and/or details of any benefits you receive. If you are in receipt of benefits and/or tax credits and/or child benefit please bring with you your benefit/tax credit letter confirming the amount you receive. This letter must be dated within the last three months. In addition to above we require from you at the first appointment your last months bank statement for all accounts you have. If you are not able to provide this to us please telephone our reception staff who will discuss an alternative method of proving your name and address to us. The last thing we require you to bring with you is any paperwork you have that will assist our solicitors in advising you in reference to your case, such as Court orders, applications etc. If you are not eligible for Public Funding then we do ask that the fixed fee is paid to us on the date of the appointment.

IS EVERYTHING I TELL YOU CONFIDENTIAL?

As solicitors we are members of the Law Society and by virtue of being a member of the Law Society we have to adhere to many rules and regulations. Confidentiality is regulated by the Codes of Conduct issues and updated by the Law Society on a regular basis.

CAN YOU REPRESENT BOTH ME AND MY SPOUSE IN THE DIVORCE?

Due to strict rules we adhere too under the Law Society's Codes of Conduct generally we cannot represent both parties to a transaction, for example the husband and wife in divorce proceedings. There are rare occasions when we can act for both husband and wife, for example in conveyancing transaction but in this situation we are unable to act for both the buyer and seller. These rules exist to ensure that our solicitors give their client the advice that fits their instructions and ensures that the client's best interests are adhered too. It is paramount therefore that you provide the name of the person you seek advise about (the opponent) as this allows us to check our records carefully. Conflicts can however arise in many different ways and the above is merely one example of how a conflict arises. If a conflict does arise we will contact you immediately and provide you with alternative firms of solicitors who may be able to assist you. Our solicitors are not able to confirm to you the nature of the conflict as this may break the rules of confidentiality.

WILL I HAVE TO GO TO COURT?

If your case involves you attending Court then our solicitors will do everything to ensure that the attendance at Court goes as smoothly as possible. Our solicitors will discuss the arrangements available to you at Court including security measures that are available. It is also possible for you to visit the Court a few days before your attendance is due to help make the process smoother.
